History of Proclaim! TV Mass

In 1987, Monsignor Philip Saylor, Rector of St. John Gualbert Cathedral, and Catholic businessman and Deacon, John Sroka, first brought the Catholic Mass to television audiences in and around Johnstown , PA.  The monsignor and the deacon assembled a group of dedicated  volunteers who worked with borrowed and rented cable TV equipment under the guidance of several local TV professionals. It was a humble beginning.

In the following years, Father Chuck  Bridges, who was a journalist and radio professional before his ordination,  was assigned to St. John Gualbert Cathedral parish. Father Chuck worked tirelessly to develop a better and better broadcast.  Many generous  volunteers helped Father Bridges in this effort, most notably  former head of production at WJAC-TV, Dino Tessari, and expert engineer,  Joe Delso.

Today The Proclaim! TV Mass Ministry continues to be  staffed by  volunteers, some are media professionals, some are students, others are just willing volunteers who understand the importance of our local Mass broadcast.

Supported by You

Our volunteers give their time and talent each Sunday, serving as camera operators, graphic and sound techs, program director, satellite engineer, and more.  Contributions of many donors have helped purchase  the equipment needed. We recently converted our broadcast to a new HD format.

We are grateful for the success God has granted to this ministry. We believe that after more than 35 years of broadcasting Sunday Mass, The Proclaim! TV Mass from St. John Gualbert is the longest running Mass broadcast from a parish congregation. Thank you to all who have helped us.

The TV Mass is entirely supported by donations.  If you would like to become a Minute-A-Month sponsor of Proclaim TV Mass, we'd love your support, please use the contribution form provided below.
